Requesting Medication and Laboratory Orders in Promed MRS
This section explains how to request laboratory investigations for an admitted patient.
Example: Thomas Huddersfield, a male patient currently admitted to the Male Medical Ward (Bed MM-01).
Step 1: Open the Patient’s Record
- Go to Find Patient Record.
- Search for Thomas Huddersfield.
- Open his active visit (status: Inpatient).

Step 2: Access the Orders Section
- In the patient’s visit view, select Orders or Investigations.
- Click Add New Order.
- Choose Laboratory Test as the order type.

Step 3: Select the Laboratory Tests
From the available list, select the tests requested by the clinician:

| Blood Glucose (Random) | Routine | Monitor diabetes |
| Serum Creatinine | Routine | Assess kidney function |
Use Add Another if you need to request multiple tests in one session.
Step 4: Confirm and Save
- Review the selected tests.
- Click Save / Submit Order.
- The orders are now visible under Pending Laboratory Tests for this patient.

Step 5: View or Track Test Status
- Go to Laboratory → Pending Tests or Patient Record → Orders.
- The test status will update as the lab processes and records results:
- Ordered → In Progress → Completed
Example Scenario
Thomas Huddersfield’s doctor requested:
- CBC to check for infection or anemia.
- Blood Glucose to monitor diabetes control.
- Serum Creatinine to assess renal function.
Once submitted, these tests will appear in the lab’s pending queue for processing.
Add Results
After the laboratory staff record the results, proceed to “Recording and Viewing Laboratory Results” to complete the workflow.
