Bed Management
Create Bed Types
Path: Bed Management → Bed Types → Add Bed Type
The display name must be 10 characters or fewer.

Recommended examples:

Save after creating each bed type.
(Optional) Create Bed Tags
Path: Bed Management → Bed Tags → Add Bed Tag
Tags are optional labels (≤10 characters) used for filtering or marking beds.
Examples: OXYGEN, PRIVATE, ISOLATE

Add Beds to Each Ward
Path: Bed Management → Bed Allocation → Add Bed
For each inpatient department:
- Click Add Bed
- Fill in:
- Bed Name: e.g.
MAT-01(≤10 chars) - Bed Type: select from your list (e.g.
MAT_BED) - Location: choose the department (e.g. Maternity Ward)
- Tags: optional (e.g.
OXYGEN)
- Bed Name: e.g.
- Click Save
Repeat for all beds.
Verify Beds
Go to Bed Allocation, filter by department, and confirm all beds appear
(green = available, red = occupied).

Tip:
Use short names (≤10 chars) to avoid validation errors.
For large setups, importing via SQL or REST API is possible,
but the UI is faster for initial configuration.
Bed Allocation Status
This section shows the current setup of available beds in the system, filtered by occupancy status.

Maternity Ward and Male Medical Ward

Note:
Occupancy Status = Noindicates the bed is currently available.Allocated = Yesshows the bed has been created and assigned in the system.- Additional beds can be added using Bed Allocation → Add Bed in the OpenMRS interface.
Steps to Allocate a Bed to a Patient
This section explains how to create new beds using the Add Bed functionality in the Bed Management module.
Step 1: Open Bed Allocation
- Navigate to Bed Management → Bed Allocation → Add Bed.
Step 2: Fill in Bed Details
You will see the following fields:

Step 3: Save the Bed
- Click Save to create the bed.
- Repeat for additional beds, incrementing Bed number (e.g., MAT-02, MAT-03).

Tip:
- Bed row/column are optional and only affect the visual layout in the ward grid.
- Bed numbers must be unique and ≤10 characters.
- Use Bed Tags for special filtering (e.g., OXYGEN, ICU, PRIVATE).
