Extended Result Formats (Microbiology Annexes Case)

Overview

This documentation provides step-by-step instructions for configuring microbiology test panels, specifically focusing on urine culture and bacteriological examination (ECBU – Examen Cytobactériologique des Urines).

Template Editing Capabilities

The system offers widely available and highly flexible template editing capabilities, allowing you to:

  • Create custom layouts and structures for any microbiology test
  • Use HTML formatting to design professional, detailed reports
  • Define unlimited interpretations and comments per test
  • Customize table formats, text styles, and hierarchical presentations
  • Adapt templates to your laboratory’s specific reporting requirements

Configuration Process

1. Creating the Main Test Panel

Step 1: Create New Test Panel

  • Navigate to Test Panel creation interface
  • Create a new test panel with the name: EXAMEN CYTOBACTÉRIOLOGIQUE DES URINES
  • Set the parent Test Panel to: Microbiologie

2. Understanding the Configuration Hierarchy

Once you have selected:

  1. Test Panel name (EXAMEN CYTOBACTÉRIOLOGIQUE DES URINES)
  2. Parent Test Panel (Microbiologie)

The remaining configuration focuses on Tests with their associated:

  • Comments
  • Interpretations (where applicable)

3. Configuring Individual Tests

Example: Fresh State Examination (Examen à l’état frais)

Test Configuration:

  • Test Name: Examen à l’état frais
  • Add interpretation or comment as a structured table

Sample Interpretation Table Format:

ParameterNormal RangeResult
Red Blood Cells /mlNormal <5,0001,000 /ml
White Blood Cells /mlNormal <10,00020,025,000 /ml
Epithelial Cells–Some
Cylinders–Absent
Crystals–Absent
Germs–Numerous germs in fresh state

4. Customization Options

HTML Formatting

You are not limited to the example template. The flexible template editor allows you to define your own styles and structures using HTML to create:

  • Custom table layouts with specific column widths and styles
  • Formatted text sections with headers, bold, italic, and colors
  • Hierarchical result presentations with nested elements
  • Color-coded interpretations for quick reference
  • Multi-column layouts for comprehensive reports

Unlimited Interpretations and Comments

  • Each test can have an unlimited number of predefined interpretations
  • Each test can have an unlimited number of predefined comments
  • Choose between comments or interpretations based on your reporting needs
  • Mix and match different interpretation styles across tests
  • Create interpretation libraries that can be reused across similar tests

Test a result:

5. Working with Results

Accessing Interpretations

  1. Navigate to the results section
  2. Expand the specific result entry
  3. Click on the interpretation dropdown
  4. Select the appropriate predefined interpretation
  5. The interpretation is instantly applied to the result

Adding Comments

  1. From the expanded result view
  2. Select the comment option instead of interpretation
  3. Choose or modify the predefined comment
  4. Edit inline if additional customization is needed
  5. Click Save when satisfied with your selection

6. Report Generation

Once configured and results are entered:

  • Generate the report with a single click
  • The system will produce a professional PDF document
  • The PDF includes all selected interpretations and comments
  • Formatting is preserved according to your HTML customization
  • Reports maintain consistent branding and layout

Best Practices

  1. Consistent Naming: Use standardized test names across your laboratory
  2. Clear Parameters: Define normal ranges clearly in interpretations
  3. HTML Validation: Test your HTML formatting before deployment
  4. Template Libraries: Build reusable template components for common tests
  5. Regular Updates: Review and update interpretation libraries regularly
  6. User Training: Ensure staff understand the difference between comments and interpretations
  7. Version Control: Keep track of template changes for quality assurance

Technical Notes

  • Parent hierarchy must be established before configuring individual tests
  • HTML supports standard tags for formatting (tables, lists, bold, italic, colors, etc.)
  • PDF generation maintains HTML formatting integrity
  • Changes to interpretations/comments require explicit saving
  • Template modifications are immediately available after saving
  • The system supports responsive design for different report formats

Advantages of Flexible Template Editing

  • Time Efficiency: Create templates once, reuse across multiple tests
  • Consistency: Maintain standardized reporting formats across the laboratory
  • Professionalism: Generate polished, branded reports automatically
  • Adaptability: Quickly adjust templates to meet changing regulatory requirements
  • Scalability: Easily expand your test library without technical assistance
